South West Heritage & Development Secures Landmark Crown Estate Project in Taunton

We’re proud to announce that South West Heritage & Development Ltd has secured our largest contract to date — an exciting 18-month programme of works in Taunton, undertaken in partnership with The Crown Estate and Savills.

This significant project will see our team deliver comprehensive external restoration works across the main house and ten outbuildings within a historic estate — blending traditional craftsmanship with modern construction standards.

A Major Restoration Project

Th

e project centres on the extensive re-roofing and structural repair of every building on the estate, ensuring their long-term preservation and structural integrity.

Our scope of works includes:

  • Re-roofing of all buildings, using heritage-appropriate materials and methods.
  • Major structural repairs to roof structures, timber floors, and frames, addressing age-related deterioration and ensuring stability for generations to come.
  • Full removal of the existing external render from the main house, allowing it to be re-rendered in traditional lime, restoring the building’s breathability and original aesthetic.
  • Installation of new timber windows and doors across the estate, designed to enhance energy performance while preserving historic character.
  • Construction of a bespoke oak-framed conservatory on the main house, crafted to complement its architecture and provide a lasting legacy of quality and design.

These works reflect the very essence of what we do — combining traditional building expertise with modern project delivery to protect and enhance the South West’s built heritage.
